Scrooge! The Musical

Set in Victorian London, the story follows the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, a cold-hearted moneylender who despises Christmas and lives a life devoid of compassion and joy. On Christmas Eve, Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his former business partner, Jacob Marley, who warns him to change his ways or suffer a grim fate in the afterlife. Scrooge undergoes a profound experience of redemption over the course of a Christmas Eve night, after being visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future.
With a score full of memorable songs, including music for which composer Bricusse received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score for the film adaptation, Scrooge! The Musical blends humor, drama, and uplifting messages in a celebration of redemption and the true meaning of Christmas.

Open Call: Starting 7pm.
Bring: Copy of headshot and resume. Please prepare 16–32 bars of a song in the style of the show (but not from it). Bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided.

Friday 7:30pm, Saturday 2pm and 7:30pm, and Sunday 2pm
Special Performance: November 29 at 5pm (instead of 2pm)
$16.90/hour for rehearsals and performances for 10-25 hours per week. No minimum.
Note: All roles are non-union. All actors must be local to the Los Angeles/Orange County area. No travel or housing is provided.
Performers under 18 will be cast as volunteers and will receive a $200 reimbursable stipend.
The production will rehearse and be performed in-person, following all local, state, CDC, and OSHA health & safety guidelines. The latest protocols can be found [ COVID Guidelines ].
Character Breakdown:
Mrs. Cratchit / Mrs. Dilber / Landlord:
Female, 30s-50s, Any Ethnicity
Mrs. Cratchit is strong-willed and loving, unafraid to stand up to Scrooge’s injustice. Mrs. Dilber is a vendor who owes Scrooge money—tired, clever, and cautious. Also plays a boisterous pub landlord.

Nephew Harry / Young Ebenezer / Pringle:
Male, 20s-30s, Any Ethnicity
Harry is warm, witty, and full of holiday spirit. Young Ebenezer begins as shy and idealistic but becomes driven and emotionally closed. Also plays Pringle, a friendly toy shop owner.

Isabel / Helen / Beggar Woman:
Female, 20s-30s, Any Ethnicity
Isabel is intelligent and affectionate but heartbroken by Ebenezer’s ambition. Helen is gracious and welcoming. Also plays a hopeful woman down on her luck.

Ghost of Christmas Past / Wine Merchant:
Female, 20s-30s, Any Ethnicity
An ethereal guide through Scrooge’s memories. Gentle, warm, and wise. Also plays a lively wine vendor.

Mrs. Fezziwig / Jollygoode / Baker Woman / Bess:
Female, 30s-40s, Any Ethnicity
Mrs. Fezziwig is bubbly and generous. Jollygoode and Baker Woman are community members full of heart, struggle, and resilience.

Miss Dilber / Teacher / Mary:
Female, 20s-30s, Any Ethnicity
Miss Dilber is a firey Co-Owner of a knitwear stall who owes Scrooge money and who is completely fed-up with him. Mary – friend of Harry & Helen’s, a party guest who enjoys flirting with fellow guest Topper. Martha Cratchit – Oldest sister. Happy, confident, and very helpful to her Mother.

Punch & Judy Man / Dick Wilkins / Topper:
Male, 20s-30s, Any Ethnicity
Street puppeteer who owes Scrooge money, desperate, funny, charming, loves entertaining kids. Dick Wilkins – friend/co-worker of young Ebenezer in the past who playfully teases Scrooge. Topper – friend of Harry & Helen’s, a party guest who enjoys flirting with fellow guest Mary.

Tiny Tim Cratchit:
Male, 6-10, Any Ethnicity
The youngest Cratchit child. Sweet, frail, and wise beyond his years. His optimism is the heart of the story.

Kathy Cratchit:
Female, 8-12, Any Ethnicity
Bright, gentle, and nurturing older sister to Tiny Tim. Imaginative and kind.
