Fancy Nancy: Splendiferous Christmas The Musical

What could be fancier than Christmas? Presents with elegant wrapping paper, festive decorations, Christmas cookies with sprinkles – and who could forget the tree? After all, there is no such thing as too much tinsel. Ooh la la! This year, Nancy is especially excited.
After selling some of her old gowns and accessories, Nancy has enough money to buy a brand-new sparkly tree topper. She can’t wait to decorate the Christmas tree. But when things don’t turn out the way Nancy planned, will Christmas still be splendiferous?

Father:

Mr. Clancy is Nancy and Jojo’s dad. A doting father who loves his family. A voice of reason when Nancy tries being too fancy, as well as a shoulder to lean on when things go wrong.

Come From Away

Come From Away is based on the true story of the time when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland, played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small town turned into an international sleepover, when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from around the globe, were diverted to Gander’s airstrip on September 11, 2001. Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander cheered the stranded travelers with music, an open bar and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family.
Casting Note:
In this production, 12 performers will portray 163 named and unnamed characters, often transforming in an instant. We are seeking exceptional actor-singers with vivid imaginations and emotional honesty. Strong singers are essential, and we are equally interested in actors who are expressive, physically alive storytellers and comfortable creating character and story through movement. This is not a dance-heavy production, but it requires performers who can move with confidence, precision, and freedom as an ensemble.
We are committed to creating a rehearsal room where every artist is valued, respected, and empowered. We enthusiastically welcome performers of all races, ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, gender identities, sexual orientations, body types, abilities, and lived experiences. Unless a character’s cultural or racial identity is essential to the story, roles are open to performers of all backgrounds.
Dialect work is an important part of the storytelling. Actors will be asked to explore dialect work at the auditions. Previous dialect experience is not required.

Claude & Others:
Male, 40-60, Any Ethnicity
Claude is the gregarious, well-liked Mayor of Gander and one of the production’s primary local storytellers. He begins his day concerned with the ordinary business of a small town and, within hours, finds himself helping lead an emergency response for thousands of unexpected guests. Warm, funny, practical, occasionally exhausted, and deeply proud of his community. Also plays Derm, Brenda’s Brother, and Eddie.

Beulah & Others:
Female, 40-60, Any Ethnicity
Beulah is the head of the Gander Legion and a mother whose son is a firefighter. She throws herself into the emergency response from the first moment strangers arrive. Her friendship with Hannah begins with their shared experience as mothers of firefighters and grows into one of the musical’s most profound relationships. Also plays Delores, an anxious and claustrophobic passenger.
Vocal range: Mezzo with strong belt
Oz & Others:
Male, 30-50, Any Ethnicity
Oz is Gander’s police constable: practical, eccentric, quick-thinking, and deeply connected to his community. This track includes several memorable supporting characters including Terry, Matty, the Rabbi, Joey, Mr. Michaels, a Customs Officer, and a Head Cardiologist.
Vocal range: Contemporary Tenor
Janice & Others:
Female, 20-30, Any Ethnicity
Janice is a bright, eager, slightly green, young local television reporter whose first day on the job becomes September 11, 2001. She begins slightly overmatched and grows into an important witness to the events unfolding around her. Also plays Britney and a Flight Attendant.
Vocal range: Contemporary Soprano with strong belt/mix
Beverly & Others:
Female, 40-60, Any Ethnicity
Beverley is Captain Beverley Bass, a pioneering American Airlines pilot. Commanding, intelligent, resilient, and emotionally contained, she is responsible for her passengers and crew while privately confronting the possibility that the world she has built her life around has changed forever. Also plays Annette, a Gander Academy schoolteacher and mother, and a Reporter.
Vocal range: Strong contemporary Mezzo with mix/belt
Nick & Others:
Male, 50-60, Any Ethnicity
Nick is an English oil engineer whose life has largely been organized around work. Reserved, thoughtful, and gently funny, he finds himself unexpectedly drawn to Diane. Also plays Doug, Officer Stephenson, and other townspeople.
Vocal range: Warm contemporary Baritone
Kevin T. & Others:
Male, 30-50, Any Ethnicity
Kevin T. is a successful Los Angeles businessman stranded in Gander with his boyfriend, Kevin J. Social, observant, and hopeful, he is more willing than his partner to trust the people around them. Also plays Garth, the head of the local bus drivers’ union.
Vocal range: Contemporary Tenor
Kevin J. & Others:
Male, 30-50, Middle Eastern and/or North African Descent
Kevin J. is Kevin T.’s boyfriend and secretary: sarcastic, wary, and tightly controlled. This actor also plays Ali, an Egyptian Muslim passenger whose experience of suspicion and Islamophobia is one of the story’s most important reminders that generosity was not experienced equally by everyone. The track also plays Dwight.

Bob & Others:
Male, 20-40, Black/African Descent
Bob is a skeptical New Yorker who arrives in Gander expecting the worst and gradually encounters a community that challenges his assumptions. Also plays Muhumuza, an African passenger traveling with his family, and Captain Bristol.

Hannah & Others:
Female, 40-60, Black/African performers strongly encouraged
Hannah is a mother from Manhattan desperately waiting for news about her son, a New York firefighter. Her connection with Beulah grows from their shared experience as mothers of firefighters into one of the show’s most moving acts of companionship. Also plays Mickey, one of the local bus drivers, and Margie, a local volunteer.

Note from the Director
The story of Come From Away begins with a world suddenly transformed by fear. Borders close. Planes are grounded. Information is scarce. Ordinary people find themselves confronting extraordinary uncertainty. At the center of that uncertainty lies a simple question: How do we choose to respond to one another when fear tells us to retreat?
What continues to move me most about this musical is that it refuses to make its heroes extraordinary. The people of Gander are teachers, bus drivers, police officers, pilots, veterinarians, parents, and neighbors. Faced with an impossible situation, they simply begin asking, “What needs to happen next? Who needs help?” The answer becomes thousands of small acts of generosity.
What makes Come From Away such a remarkable piece of theatre is that twelve actors portray dozens of different people before our eyes. The audience watches those transformations happen in real time. That theatrical device is more than clever staging—it is the central metaphor of the play.
Importantly, the musical never suggests that generosity erases the realities of fear or prejudice. Ali’s kindness does not shield him from Islamophobia. Kevin T. and Kevin J.’s welcome in Gander does not erase the lifetime of caution that taught them to question whether it was safe to be openly themselves. Hannah’s story reminds us that compassion cannot undo unimaginable loss. The power of Come From Away is not that these divisions disappear—it is that ordinary people choose, again and again, to reach across them anyway.
We are looking for artists who are generous, curious, fearless, and deeply collaborative. This is an ensemble in the truest sense of the word, and I hope our rehearsal room reflects the very values the play celebrates: trust, humility, empathy, craftsmanship, generosity, and joy.
Come From Away never suggests that kindness erases tragedy. Grief, fear, prejudice, and loss remain. But alongside those realities, the musical offers another possibility: that ordinary people, through countless acts of generosity, can create moments of extraordinary hope.
That is the story I hope we tell together.
