2012 Resident Playwright

Zayd Dohrn

For the 2nd year in a row, Chance Theater will have a resident playwright whose work will be featured throughout the year in the On The Radar Series. Previous resident playwrights include Adam Szymkowicz. Our hope is for future resident playwrights to return to have their work featured in both the OTR Series and the Main Season.

We are very excited to introduce you to our 2012 resident playwright… Zayd Dohrn. Zayd earned his MFA from NYU and was a two-year Lila Acheson Wallace Fellow at Julliard. He twice received the Lincoln Center’s Lecomte du Nouy Prize, the Theatre Masters Visionary Playwrights Award, the Sky Cooper Prize, and the Jean Kennedy Smith Award, as well as residencies and commissions from theaters such as Dallas Theatre Center and the Royal Court Theatre of London. Currently, Zayd is developing screenplays for Vox3 Films and American Film Company while teaching playwrighting and screenwriting at Northwestern University.

This year, Zayd will have two of his shows featured in the OTR Series — a staged reading of a brand new play, The Origin Story of Mr. Clean, and Magic Forest Farm. In addition, Zayd will have his Southern California premiere of Reborning in Chance Theater’s main season.
